MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE REGULATORY AND APPEALS COMMITTEE HELD AT COUNTY HALL, NEWPORT, ISLE OF WIGHT ON THURSDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2002 COMMENCING AT 10.00 AM

 22.      ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN FOR THE DAY

Due to the absence of the Chairman and Vice Chairman, it was necessary to elect a Chairman for the day.

RESOLVED :

THAT Mrs B E Foster be elected Chairman for the day.

23.      DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

There were no declarations received at this stage.

24.      EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS

RESOLVED :

                       THAT under Section 100(A)(4) of the Local Government Act 1972 the public and press be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business, namely Minute number 25 on the grounds that there is likely to be disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 5 and 7 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Act.

25.      BUSINESS RATES HARDSHIP RELIEF

The Strategic Director of Finance and Information advised the Committee that the Council were permitted to grant relief on the grounds of hardship and outlined the circumstances which were required to be shown. The Committee considered then considered the application.

The Committee considered that hardship had not been caused solely by foot and mouth disease and it was not in the interests of the council tax payer to grant relief in this case.

RESOLVED :

THAT relief on the grounds of hardship should not be given.
