Report of the Cabinet Member for Island Health WellBeing AND Supporting People

TO THE MEETING OF FULL COUNCIL

 ON WEDNESDAY, 16 MAY 2007

I was pleased to open the recent “Our Health Our Care Our Say” conference held at Northwood House, which was organised by the Community Services directorate.

The purpose of the conference was to review progress and to comprehensively plan to move the integrated Health and Social care agenda forward.

There was an excellent attendance and we were privileged to have a number of key speakers and visitors from other authorities and agencies present, including: Professor Gerald Wistow of the London School of Economics, colleagues from North Lincolnshire and Knowsley Councils, Ed Macallister Smith, the Chief Executive of the Island Healthcare Trust, Dr George Thomson from Freshwater, Sarah Mitchell, the Director of Community Services and the Head of Service, Claire Foreman.

The outcomes from the conference workshops will be used to produce an action plan to drive the Health and Wellbeing agenda forward.

The conference was led by Professor Tony Attwood, a leading worldwide authority on this subject. The conference was attended by many parents and staff from other Councils and was highly successful. Thanks to Dr Mike Vickers and Trish Cotton from the Special Educational Needs team for arranging such a worthwhile event.
