Report of the
TO THE MEETING OF FULL COUNCIL
ON WEDNESDAY, 16 MAY 2007
I
was pleased to open the recent “Our Health Our Care Our Say” conference held at
Northwood House, which was organised by the Community Services directorate.
The
purpose of the conference was to review progress and to comprehensively plan to
move the integrated Health and Social care agenda forward.
There
was an excellent attendance and we were privileged to have a number of key
speakers and visitors from other authorities and agencies present, including: Professor
Gerald Wistow of the London School of Economics, colleagues from North
Lincolnshire and Knowsley Councils, Ed Macallister Smith, the Chief Executive
of the Island Healthcare Trust, Dr George Thomson from Freshwater, Sarah
Mitchell, the Director of Community Services and the Head of Service, Claire
Foreman.
The
outcomes from the conference workshops will be used to produce an action plan
to drive the Health and Wellbeing agenda forward.

attended the Asperger’s Syndrome “Making Sense of the Puzzle” Conference held
in
The
conference was led by Professor Tony Attwood, a leading worldwide authority on
this subject. The conference was attended by many parents and staff from other Councils
and was highly successful. Thanks to Dr Mike Vickers and Trish Cotton from the Special
Educational Needs team for arranging such a worthwhile event.

attended the Local Government Association Community Well Being Board meeting in

Additionally,
a discussion took place regarding the future funding of Health and Social Care.
