REPORT OF THE PORTFOLIO HOLDER FOR CHILDREN’S SERVICES
REASON FOR SELECT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION
At the last meeting of the Select Committee members received a presentation outlining the baseline information contained within the Strategic Options report produced by FourS. A series of public meetings were held during February. The Select Committee requested that the results of this exercise together, with the options to be put forward by the Portfolio Holder, should be discussed prior to consideration by the Executive.
ACTION REQUIRED BY THE SELECT
COMMITTEE 1. To receive information from: · The Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services · The Director of Children’s Services and the Head of Planning and Resources · The Chief Executive of FourS · Representatives from Milton Keynes Council About: · The recommendations for the future of evaluation and training on the Island to be put to the Executive on 23rd March · The recommendations made by FourS, the process, evidence and analysis which led to them, and how they were taken into account in reaching the recommendations of the Portfolio Holder · Other options for and perspectives on the future of education and training on the Island 2. To decide whether to make recommendations: · to the Executive about the recommendations to be considered at it’s meeting on 23rd March · to the Portfolio Holder, Director of Children’s Services or Head of Planning and Resources about the implementation of the decisions to be taken at the Executive on 23rd March · to other stakeholders involved in developing the future of education and training on the Island 3. To decide whether to add future lines of enquiry or terms of reference to the work programme of the Select Committee |

Attached to this report as an appendix is a draft report to the Executive of 23rd March 2005. That report sets out the background and strategic context to the issues for consideration by the Select Committee.
CONSULTATION PROCESS, FINANCIAL, LEGAL, CRIME AND DISORDER IMPLICATIONS
The draft Executive report also sets out information and advice about the consultation process, to date and in the future and presents analysis of the financial and legal context of the Select Committee debate.
