COUNCIL CABINET TO HOLD PUBLIC QUESTION TIME IN YARMOUTH

DATE:         5 JUNE 2007

TIME:          6.00 PM

VENUE:     YARMOUTH CHURCH OF ENGLAND (AIDED) PRIMARY SCHOOL, MILL ROAD, YARMOUTH, ISLE OF WIGHT

Members of the Isle of Wight Council's Cabinet are taking their 5 June meeting to Yarmouth, to give local residents an opportunity to talk to Councillors about issues that concern them.

The meeting will not follow a formal agenda and will instead, run as an informal question and answer session where members of the public can turn up and ask questions or make comments to Councillors about any subjects that they want to raise.  It is hoped that further meetings will be arranged on an ad-hoc basis in other locations across the Island.

Council Leader, Andy Sutton said, "We know from the results of our annual survey that local residents want to be involved in council decisions and to feel that they have had an opportunity to have their say on a range of topics.  We hope this informal approach will encourage residents who perhaps are unable to get to Newport for our formal meetings and particularly those who don't usually come forward, to come along and raise the questions that they want to ask."

Councillors will try and ensure that all questions, wherever possible, are answered on the night but anyone with a particularly detailed question requiring a response, is advised to submit their question by Friday 1 June by email to [email protected] or in writing to Chris Mathews, Head of Democratic Services, Isle of Wight Council, County Hall, Newport, PO30 1UD.
