OUTLINE OF ENQUIRY

 

To look at the cost benefits of household recycling and also how the Council can reduce the impact of commercial waste through recycling initiatives.

 

 

REASON FOR ENQUIRY

 

To highlight the cost benefits for each island resident of recycling.

 

To scrutinise what can be done by the Council to reduce the landfill impact of commercial waste and encourage recycling initiatives.

 

 

PROPOSED OUTCOME/S

 

To assist in publicising the importance of household recycling in terms of cost and capacity.

 

To raise greater awareness in the commercial sector of good waste management and recycling.

 

To contribute towards the Council’s Waste Management Strategy

Defra - A practice guide for the development of municipal waste management strategies.

Defra – Waste Strategy for England 2007

The integrated waste management contract between the Council and Island Waste Services.

 

What will not be included

 

Any alternative form of disposal or alteration to existing household collection frequency.
