REASON FOR ENQUIRY

 

Ø      The Local Area Agreement aims to, “Improve the quality of life of Older People” (Under ‘healthier communities’, Aim B, Goal B1)

 

Ø      To ensure that the assessment and quality of continuing care meets national standards

 

Ø      Recent media coverage on the criteria for assessing continuing care needs

 

Ø      To provide a seamless service between the local NHS and Local Authority, particularly in light of plans for an integrated organisation.

PROPOSED OUTCOME OF POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

 

Ø      Improved quality of life of older people receiving continuing care

TERMS OF REFERENCE

 

To receive evidence from stakeholders on:

 

·       Defining the term ‘older people’

·       National and regional criteria for Continuing Care level 1 (NHS healthcare), 2 (health and social care) and 3 (social care only)

·       Current practice in terms of assessing and providing continuing care

·       Identifying unmet-need

·       Identifying links between continuing care and public health

·       The current ‘joint operational policy for the agreement of funding of Continuing Care’, between the Isle of Wight Council and Primary Care Trust

 

In order to:

 

·       Identify any improvements to the current process of assessment and provision of continuing care for older people

 

What will not be included

 

Continuing care delivered to those who are not covered by the term ‘older people’  (as defined by this enquiry)
