ENQUIRY NAME

Island Ports Sustainability Study

REFERENCE NUMBER

E1/06

In March 2006 this Policy Commission was charged with undertaking an enquiry which would “recommend to Cabinet how the Isle of Wight Council (IWC) can work with stakeholders to sustain and develop Island ports to meet the aspirations of the Island Plan”.

This enquiry has so far taken evidence from a number of stakeholders, including all the main cross-Solent operators; Island Harbour Authorities; Natural England; the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism & Industry; and the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership.  The enquiry is also currently seeking views from the Town and Parish Councils and Town Management Committees, and will shortly be meeting with mainland Local Authorities and Harbour Authorities.

The next step is to undertake a resident’s survey.  In the next issue of One Island magazine there will be the opportunity for members of the public to complete a questionnaire, and give any other views which may be pertinent to the enquiry.

It is hoped that the residents of the Island will contribute to this study and give their views by way of the questionnaire, which can also be completed online, and in writing.

The enquiry is on track to deliver a Blue Paper by June 2007.
