REPORT OF APPEAL DECISIONS

(a)

A/485/H

Suzuki GB plc against refusal for advertisement consent for illuminated and non-illuminated facia signage, 1 non-illuminated free standing directional sign and 1 illuminated double side post mounted sign at Hale Common Service Station, Hale Common, Arreton.

Officer Recommendation:

Refusal

Committee Decision:

Refusal (Part 1) – 9 June 2004

Appeal Decision

Part allowed ( facia signs, directional sign and car park signs) Part dismissed (roadside internally illuminated double sided post mounted sign)

Main Issue of the case as identified by the Inspector:

·         The visual impact of the signs on the premises and in surrounding views.

Conclusions of the Inspector:

·         Two of the facia signs will replace the existing internally illuminated signs and would not look out of place or appear intrusive.

·          The facia signage on the forecourt canopy would be neatly positioned and would not give rise to any impression of advertisement clutter.

·          The directional sign would not be obtrusive.

·          The two parking signs, set back in the car park, and the modest sign over the showroom door, would have no adverse impact on the premises or the surroundings.

·          The roadside internally illuminated, double sided post mounted sign would be tall and prominent and would over emphasis the premises in non commercial and essentially rural surroundings.
