23.      URGENT BUSINESS - AGN/24024A AGRICULTURAL PRIOR NOTIFICATION FOR AN IMPLEMENT SHED IN CONNECTION WITH FORESTRY HELENS COPSE, OFF GATE LANE, FRESHWATER

The Chairman agreed to an item of urgent business as a decision was required prior to the next meeting.

Consideration was given to an application for an implement shed, which would be used to store equipment and tools in connection with the afforestation and maintenance of the site.

The Committee were advised that a previous application had been submitted to the Authority in March 2002. At that time approval was withheld on the basis that the Authority were not satisfied that the building of the size proposed was necessary for the purposes of forestry operations on the holding. An Enforcement Notice had previously been served on the owner of the site in respect of the siting of two large shipping containers being used for storage of grass cutting equipment and other tools used in connection with the maintenance of the land.

The matter was subsequently the subject of an appeal. The appeal was allowed and the inspector granted planning permission for the two shipping containers for a temporary period of eighteen months.

The Parish Council had objected to the application, three letters of objection and an additional two letters of objection had been received. The Committee believed that the shed was too large for the purpose for which it was intended.

RESOLVED :

THAT objection be raised on the grounds that a building of the size proposed is not reasonably necessary for the purposes of forestry.
