PAPER G
SOCIAL SERVICES,
HOUSING AND BENEFITS SELECT COMMITTEE – 8 JULY 2003
HOMELESSNESS
MONITORING AND NOMINATION STATISTICS
REPORT OF THE HEAD OF HOUSING SERVICES
REASON FOR SELECT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION
This report gives members the opportunity to
receive Homeless Monitoring and Nomination Statistics for May (month 2) for
scrutiny purposes
To make recommendations
BACKGROUND
Attached at Appendix 1, are the monthly
Homeless statistics, and at Appendix 2 the monthly Homeless Nomination
statistics for May (month 2). In
addition at Appendix 3 are the B&B statistics, showing the figures being
monitored by the Government B&B Unit
Members will note from the data that the
number of households presenting as homeless has risen slightly. This is in line with the seasonal trends
experienced in previous years. The
reduction in the numbers in bed and breakfast has also slowed, although the
position is generally in line with the with the agreed ODPM milestones. The number if families remaining over 6 weeks
has again risen slightly. Members will
note from the action plan included in the Homelessness Strategy how this
position will be addressed over the coming months.
The number of leased properties continues to
increase while the number of households
`homeless at home’ remains fairly
stable. The growth in the number of
leased properties is vital for the Council to meet its bed and breakfast target
of removing families with children by April 2004.
