PAPER C
SOCIAL SERVICES, HOUSING AND BENEFITS SELECT
COMMITTEE – 7 APRIL 2003
HOMELESSNESS MONITORING AND NOMINATION
STATISTICS
REPORT OF THE HEAD OF HOUSING SERVICES
REASON FOR SELECT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION
This report gives members the opportunity to receive Homeless Monitoring and Nomination Statistics for February (month 11), for scrutiny purposes
BACKGROUND
Attached at Appendix 1, are the
monthly Homeless statistics, and at Appendix 2 the monthly
Homeless Nomination statistics for February (month 11). In addition at Appendix 3 are the B&B statistics,
showing the figures being monitored by the Government B&B Unit.
Further to Members agreement, a
number of the data sets are provided in chart format, giving trends over the
past twelve or twenty-four months. Some
information which would not benefit from this approach continues to be
presented in the traditional format. It
is hoped to further develop the information presented over time. Members are asked to indicate whether this
overall format is an improvement.
Members will note from the data
that numbers of households in bed and breakfast continues to fall. The position is generally in line with the
with the agreed ODPM milestones.
The number of leased properties
also continued to increase while the number of households `homeless at home’
reduced.
Members will be aware that the
ODPM allocated £100,000 for 2002/3 to assist the Council inits programme of
removing families from bed and breakfast.
A further bid was made for the coming year against a much reduced
budget. We have now been notified of an
allocation of £65,000 for 2003/4 which makes a further significant contribution
to the bed and breakfast programme.
