Title:                HOMELESSNESS MONITORING AND NOMINATION STATISTICS

REPORT OF THE ACTING STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING

1.         SUMMARY

This report gives members the opportunity to receive Homeless Monitoring and Nomination Statistics for scrutiny purposes.

2.         BACKGROUND

At the meeting held on 2 October 2002, consideration was given to the end of August (month 5) homeless statistics.  It was resolved at that meeting that these statistics should be provided on a monthly basis.  The end of September (month 6) statistics are attached (Appendix 1) for members information.

In addition, monthly Homeless Nomination Statistics are now being produced, and those for September are attached (Appendix 2).  To explain the figures:  for example, the top row for Medina Housing Association shows that of the 2 bed properties, 5 out of 5 (100%) went to homeless families, of the 1 bed, 2 of 7 of the properties went to homeless families, while none of the warden assisted flats went to homeless families.

It should be stressed that nomination statistics that give just one month’s activity is inevitably only a small sample.  These statistics will not therefore begin to show a true picture of nominations until several months’ figures have accumulated.
