THE STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND INFORMATION AND COUNTY TREASURER
SUMMARY/PURPOSE
To inform
Members regarding the conversion of the present mandatory >12= cinema classification to an advisory >12A=.
BACKGROUND
The British
Board of Film Classification classifies films for cinema exhibition of behalf
of local Authorities in the United Kingdom.
Currently the classifications are >U=, >PG=, >12=, >15= or >18=.
Set out
below is Condition 9.4 of the Council=s Additional
Licence Conditions.
9.4 Moving picture classifications
No moving
picture may be exhibited unless:
(a) It has received a >U=, >PG=, >12=, >15= or >18= certificate of the British Board of Film Classification.
It is
anticipated that in a few weeks= time the
present mandatory >12= cinema
classification may be converted into an advisory >12A= (see Appendix 1 attached).
RECOMMENDATIONS For Information, but if
Members have any concerns on this proposal they may wish to let the BBFC
know. |
