SUMMARY/PURPOSE 


This Best Value Review has been carried out as one of the three statutory reviews required on behalf of Her Majesty’s Fire Service Inspectorate which issued guidance to Fire Authorities about Best Value Reviews. The Review followed best practice guidelines and guidance to undertake Best Value Reviews from the Audit Commission and Isle of Wight Council. A copy of the Review has been circulated to members of the Executive and a copy together with the appendices has been placed in the Members Room.


BACKGROUND


The Review looked at a wide range of issues contained within the scope but focused in on four main areas being:

          Current procurement strategy in the Brigade

          The current provision of personal protective equipment for Firefighters

          The maintenance of fleet and fleet procurement in the Brigade

          A review of occupational health provision currently in the Brigade.


FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS


here are financial implications contained in the report in relation to the four main areas reviewed as well as financial implications on the improvement plan, yet to be detailed. These financial implications have been made know to Members previously at the Appraisal Group level.

1.        To reject the Best Value Procurement Review

2.        To accept the recommendation


RECOMMENDATIONS


That the Fire Service Best Value Procurement Review be accepted and the recommendations be actioned.
