Title:               ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH BEST VALUE REVIEW 2001-2002

PORTFOLIO HOLDER - FIRE AND EMERGENCY PLANNING

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

This Best Value Review has investigated all of the services provided by Environmental Health. The Review followed the Council’s Toolkit and in the spirit of best practice, it also included elements from other Environmental Health Departments’ Best Value Reviews. The report identifies many changes and developments some of which have already taken place during the review period or are currently being implemented.

BACKGROUND

The Review looked at all the services provided by the Environmental Health Department which fall under the main headings of:-

Environmental Protection, including Health & Safety

          Food Safety

          Licensing

          Administration

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

The report contains numerous recommendations, some may appear relatively minor and may be of little cost, but by addressing minor issues it is hoped that a significant beneficial impact will be had upon our service delivery. However, other recommendations do have financial implications and these have been made known to members previously at the Appraisal Group meetings. The Executive will at a later date be asked to consider and approve a grant from the council’s ‘Invest to Save’ provision.

RECOMMENDATIONS

That the Environmental Health Best Value Review 2001-2002 be accepted.
