Title: THE LOCAL EDUCATION AUTHORITY REPRESENTATIVE ON ISLE OF WIGHT COLLEGE CORPORATION

PORFOLIO HOLDER – EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING

BACKGROUND

1. Two years ago, the Government introduced the requirement that all colleges of further education invite a nominee of the local education authority (LEA) to join the corporation (governing body) of every college.

PURPOSE

2. In July 2000, Cllr Peter Harris was nominated to serve on the Isle of Wight College Corporation as the LEA Representative and was elected to serve a two year term which comes to an end on 26 July 2002. The Clerk to the Corporation has written asking for the LEA’s nomination to succeed him (letter attached).

RECOMMENDATION

3. It is recommended that the Executive nominate a replacement for Cllr Harris and inform the Clerk to the Corporation of their decision.
