Title :              APPOINTMENT OF STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING

REPORT OF THE PORTFOLIO HOLDER FOR RESOURCES

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to confirm the process and determine the Appointment Panel to select the new Strategic Director of Social Services and Housing.

BACKGROUND

The Strategic Director of Social Services and Housing has resigned to take up an appointment with Oxfordshire County Council. The process to appoint a successor has begun and the Council is being assisted with its recruitment and selection by Tribal GWT, an executive search consultancy.

A cross-party group of nine Elected Members has so far overseen the process; meeting with the consultants and setting the broad selection programme. The closing date for applications is 30 September 2002 with shortlisting scheduled for week beginning 7 October 2002.Three days of ‘extended’ interviews are scheduled for 23 to 25 October 2002. A politically proportional Appointment Panel of no more than six Members is recommended for this appointment who will determine the shortlist and make the final selection decision. There will be an opportunity for other Elected Members to meet the candidates as part of the process.
