ADMISSIONS POLICY FOR ISLAND SPECIAL SCHOOLS

Members are asked to approve
the new Admissions Policy for the Island=s Special Schools that
follows from their re-organisation.
2. BACKGROUND
Medina
House and Watergate Special Schools will be re-organised from all-age schools
covering severe and complex special needs (Medina House) and moderate learning
difficulties (Watergate) to a primary phase school (Medina House) and a
secondary phase school (Watergate).
Both schools will cater for children with severe and complex special
needs from September 2003.
Admissions
Policies need to be published in the Autumn of the year preceding entry as part
of the general admissions procedure.
The
new Admissions Policy recognises the changes to age-ranges and to the spectrum
of special needs for which the schools will cater.
3. OUTCOME OF CONSULATIONS
The
new Admissions Policy is the outcome of consultations with the Planning Group
for Special Schools Re-organisation and both schools=
governing bodies.
4. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
No
further financial implications as a result of the change of policy.
5. LEGAL IMPLICATIONS
The
new policy fulfils the statutory obligation for a published Admissions Policy
for entry to the Island=s Special Schools.
To adopt the new Admissions Policy for Isle of Wight
Special Schools.
