Title :              PUBLIC CONVENIENCES TASK GROUP – UPDATE ON PROGRESS

REPORT OF THE HEAD OF SELECT COMMITTEE SUPPORT

PURPOSE

Members will recall that the Environment and Transport Select Committee has established several Task Groups with agreed terms of reference to investigate issues that fall within the Select Committee’s remit. This report is directed at providing Members with information about the progress made by the Public Conveniences Task Group.

BACKGROUND

1.        The terms of reference for the Task Group are:

           (a)       To revisit past Council investigations

           (b)       To consider alternative types of facility e.g. self cleaning

           (c)       To review Disability Discrimination Act implications (building control)

2.        The Task Group has met on four occasions. Cllr Henry Adams was appointed Task Group Chairman. Members have considered coin-operated payment systems. The Task Group has initiated a review of the options available for those public conveniences situated on recreation grounds and has recently begun a consultation process with local Members. Further consultation meetings will then take place with parish councils and other user groups.

OPTIONS

Members are invited to identify a date by which a substantive report from the Task Group with recommendations about key issues could be expected.
