Title: SCHOOL ORGANISATION PLAN, 2003/2004 – 2007/2008

REPORT OF THE STRATEGIC DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION

Under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 each local education authority is required, yearly, to produce a School Organisation Plan (SOP) showing how it intends to match supply and demand for school places over a five year period. It should not deal with details of projects at particular schools. Attached is the Island’s Draft School Organisation Plan for the years 2003/2004 to 2007/2008 which was published on 1 August 2003, with an eleven week consultation period ending on 24 October 2003.

A copy of the Plan is attached for members of the committee only. Further copies are available on application to Committee Services.

It is now necessary for the School Organisation Committee to agree the Plan, subject to any objections received, in writing, during the period of consultation.

OBJECTIONS

No objections have been received during the consultation period.

In future the Government are requiring the Plan to be produced every 3 years, although the tables will be produced yearly.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Draft School Organisation Plan, 2003/2004 – 2007/2008 be approved
