CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE  -  9 SEPTEMBER 2004

SELECT COMMITTEE REVIEWS WORK PLAN 2004/5

HEAD OF SELECT COMMITTEE AND BEST VALUE SUPPORT

REASON FOR COMMITTEE CONSIDERATION

The purpose of this report is to update Members of the Co-ordinating Committee as to the current progress with the review work arising from Select Committee work plans, achievement of the Council’s Corporate Objectives and Priority Improvement Areas.

ACTION REQUIRED BY THE COMMITTEE

To comment on current progress with reviews and suggest future priorities for the work programme, in line with Members’ priorities and the requirements of the CPA, priority improvement areas etc.

BACKGROUND

The Select Committee and Best Value Support Teams have recently merged and the workplans have been integrated to reflect the priorities arising from the Select Committee Away Days, external assessments, corporate objectives and views of the general public.

RELEVANT PLANS, POLICIES, STRATEGIES AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

The current workplan can be viewed against the reviews already carried out as outlined in the Council’s Best Value Performance Plans. The service areas under review maintain their own local and national performance indicators and poor performance against these has been a factor in determining the review programme.

CONSULTATION PROCESS

The workplan has been discussed with the Executive and Directors and was approved by Members of the Co-ordinating Committee, after consultation with the Head of Select Committee and Best Value Support, the Best Value Manager, the Leader of the Council and the Deputy Leader.

Members of the public, user-groups and other stakeholders will be consulted as appropriate within the individual reviews.

FINANCIAL, LEGAL, CRIME AND DISORDER IMPLICATIONS

Cost implications and / or savings identified will emerge from the Improvement plans for each individual review. Any legal implications arising from individual recommendations will be made clear at the time. Crime and Disorder considerations will be central to the review of Community Wardens.
